THE GAME OF THRONES: THE BATTLE OF SUCCESSION ! (PART 2)

Battle of Succession in TN Rises to a Whole New Level!

               -          Martin F.Raj

As a sigh of relief was just felt by the people of TN which made them feel as their problems are going to get over when the Honourable Supreme Court put a full stop, on the long On-going political hustle- bustle in the state by convicting VK Sasikala in disproportionate asset case making her ineligible to contest in election for nearly a decade, if to go by the media reports. But all seems to be a temporary period of ecstasy, political jantar-mantar of Tamilnadu seems to be further getting coiled and entangled into the thorns of opportunism promoted by everyone who wants to gain out something out of this situation.

After late CMs Death, it feels as if the whole state’s lifeline has been cutoff and is kept on hold for a ransom. A unpopular leader like VK Sasikala, never in her lifetime promoted by her leader is thronging to be the CM ,after she became the general secretary of the AIADMK. But, it is the people who are not willing to support her as they voted for Amma not VK Sasikala. Governor waited long for decision by the supreme court while he was pacifying the two rival factions.

But, as OPS took on the Backdoor Bastion of Sasikala Coterie, he has garnered hoard of supporters in his favour. While as Edappadi  Palianswamy has now be chosen as the legislative party leader, the crisis has further deepened, as the ops faction has challenged his election as the leader. Political mileage is picking up high as several senior Leaders, Many MLAs, MPs are seen shifting their loyalties towards the OPS camp at a much faster pace after Sasikala conviction, and also at the same time joining of Deepa Jayakumar ,’resemblo uniqa’ of her aunt, has further given boost to their political prospects. Here Sasikala not leaving any stones unturned hopes to still control the reigns of the party from the prison through a proxy who can act as a puppet. Also, she has appointed her brother TTV Dhinakaran as deputy General Secretary of the party, a man known for his notoriety as symbolism of corruption having links with the corporate mafia. Sasilkala’s political and social ethics is quite questionable as she even after her conviction along with her family members VN Sudhakaran and J Elavarasi, desperately wants to cling on to power.

But, now as the MLAs are free to play the numbers game on their own, the political mumbo jumbo has to happen only in the assembly, whether the DMK supports any ADMK faction or not ,or if it abstains from voting is to be seen. Although, the opposition will of course try to promote for fresh elections which is likely to benefit them if an election is conducted, Also who supports whom depend upon the fluctuating conscience of the MLAs who are lodged in Koovathur resort.

Although neither faction commands the simple majority of 118 MLAs to form the next government. Political Gurus predict for a divided hung assembly where no faction may win the floor test, eventually leading to a mid-term election which is sure to boost the DMK's fortunes. But , ADMK MLAs, will also be careful, because they know if  don’t choose the right faction which can form the government, most of them will lose their  seats ,if any election is held. Also, the central government is keeping its fingers crossed as they need the support of 50 ADMK MPs in the parliament.

Whatever might be the issues, people are watching, whether the Re -election if happens turn out be beneficial or not, time will only tell. But, for sure Re-election will definitely crop up heavy burden on states exchequer. Once Again the History revisits, AIADMK as party faces for a 2nd Split after MGR's Death.
